Here is an imposing architecture project that looks more like a museum than a private living space. Designed by architects Jackson Clements Burrows, the Henley Street residence has an uncommon appearance and is located in Barwon Heads, Australia. Here is more information from the architects: “A young family engaged JCB to design their new permanent residence which would replace a dilapidated 1950’s two storey house that was beyond repair. A sculptural building form emerged from the clients brief which jokingly requested a planetarium as an inclusion. This led to the exploration of circular forms and resulted in a circular skylight in the first floor living areas as a direct reference however the house was primarily conceived to immerse itself over time as a natural extension of the Ti-tree dominated landscape. The house is wrapped in as skin of vertical cedar battens (providing privacy and solar protection) which appear to emerge from the front fence intentionally confusing the relationship between built form and landscape.” We know you like original home designs, but how far would you go in order to make your home stand out from the crowd?

Flawless Modern Design and Spiritual Simplicity

Matryoshka House was designed by Architect David Jameson and is located in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Obeying the unwritten rules of the Matryoshka concept, the house is comprised of series of volumes situated one inside of the other. According to the architects’ description, “at the core, a suspended meditation chamber acts as the physical and spiritual center of the project. The internal energy of the meditation chamber is encapsulated within an open glowing frame. An alternating tread stair engages the participant to deliberately ascend the threshold to the meditation chamber. The meditation chamber is surrounded by a wooden container which encases the living areas of the house. This shell is in turn cradled by stucco walls serving as a protective layer and grounding the house to the earth. The in-between spaces of the nested volumes are strategically sliced to allow the sun to protect lines of light withing.” It is great to see a residence that amazes due to its simplicity and flawless design rather than its impressive dimensions.

Looking at the Bourke House, you’ll find yourself intrigued by the poles impaling its roof. A unique and fascinating accent, it was actually inspired by its campsite location. It draws on traditional tent and pavilion designs in which pikes and poles were often generously used. Designed by Pacific Environments, the Bourke House is actually a cottage home that embodies the idea of long summer getaways. Its open concept design leaves ample room for activities, memories and more. Aside from some quirky details, it’s minimalist aesthetic makes it perfect for passing down generation after generation. A relaxing structure, the Bourke House is also eco-friendly. It relies on solar hot-water, rainwater-recycling and more to function. A happy retreat, the Bourke House is described with the term Aotearoa, “the land of the long white cloud.”

The AE House in Mexico City is an unique building, created in a way that integrates the garden into the house. Designed by Architects from twentyfourseven, this house combines privacy with materiality. Siting on a 8,661 sqf site, this home is a tribute to beauty and offers an alternative to the centralized volumes that are closed and, also, astounding views to the lush vegetation outside. Moreover the house presents itself as a multitude of boxes with enclosed patios. The architects had to keep in mind the importance of natural light and they found the perfect solution, which is floor to ceiling windows. The house is mainly one big, open space that hosts several family rooms, living and dining areas, office, a couple of bedrooms and bathrooms. You can see contemporary furnishings throughout the entire house and lots of wooden sliding doors, which allow a filtering of spatial qualities. With a garden that seems to be inside, this splendid home is a wonderful retreat.

Contemporary Residence in Lebanon

The Ghazale Residence is a contemporary three-story villa in Lebanon, the result of a collaborative work between architects Gilbert Zarka and Sahar Ghazale. This house is very attractive with the water Fountains and exterior design that resembles a tropical house. You will see some elements such as pergolas volumetric concrete, high chimneys and 13m high glass structure allows as much light as possible into the house. One of the main features of the park is a shallow pool with fountains and pergolas teak. Interior design is a continuation from the outside. Basalt stone walls keep the inside as much, red wall supporting the main staircase. In spite of it all finished in neutral tones show elegance and simplicity.

Modern Home in Bainbridge Island

Ellice Residence was completed by Coates Design and is located in Bainbridge Island, Washington. The residence is situated on top of the Yeomalt Bluff and has panoramic views of Puget Sound and the Seattle skyline. The building has a highly welcoming exterior, featuring large windows contrasting the wood and the stone. All these make it integrate well in its beautiful natural surroundings. Ellice Residence is actually a makeover of an old villa. In order to raise the current building, the architects used more than 80% of the materials that resulted from the deconstruction. Moreover, the project has plenty of sustainable characteristics, such as geothermal and photovoltaic systems, heat-recovery technologies, as well as solar water heating systems which ensure a low electric energy consumption.

Majestic Six Bedroom Albatross Residence

The Albatross Residence was designed by Bayden Goddard Design Architects and is located in Queensland, Australia. Here is a description from the architects: "The residence successfully achieves its own oasis, by capturing beach-front vista and access whilst maintaining a private yet expansive pool and entertaining core. Entry to the residence is via a recycled timber colonnade and gatehouse that grants covered access to both wings of the house. A glazed hallway wraps the central courtyard on both the ground and first floor giving scenic circulation past the main amenities whilst providing aesthetic flow, traveling the timber stair. Privacy is ensured and natural light is made abundant as the open tread stair is back light entirely by opaque glazing. Louvered glazing has been utilized throughout the home to control ventilation by natural breezes. The internal and external palette of finishes of natural timbers and stone cohesively create a tropical, modern and comfortable ambience's. External finishes of recycled timber, natural stone, and copper allow the property to further develop character over time."
The property was bought in 2009 by poker player Bruce Mathieson, who paid no less than $18 million for the crib.

Water Tower House

It looks anything but modern on the exterior: a tall, dark tower made of stone with slots that look constructed for medieval archers and a turret-like top from which one can picture ancient defenders pouring boiling oil on would-be invaders. The inside of this 1930s water tower-turned-house, however, gleams white and smooth all around – quintessentially modern despite the non-linear walls and minimalist metal spiral staircases, curves that dominate each space within this completely remodeled cylinder. Steel, concrete and glass form the basic material palette used by Zecc in this incredible contemporary home conversion – and these choices do help to transition from the aged rustic style of the preserved facade to the modern interior spaces, but they are nonetheless almost as different as can be.

Brentwood Residence is an impressive residential project from Belzberg Architects, a company with quite a few amazing works. Located in a picturesque landscape near the Santa Monica Mountains, you are looking at a good example of contemporary architecture. The exterior of this house consists of asymmetrical volumes, creating unexpected angles of sight. Large floor to ceiling windows establish a strong indoor-outdoor connection. A large oak tree is the focal point of the site, an imposing “pillar” which the architects took advantage of by creating an outdoor entertaining area together with a tennis field. The residence also features a generous pool with inviting patio furniture. Avant-garde furniture, fresh decorating ideas, art objects and a warm color palette- all create a dreamy interior design, worthy of discovering step by step.
