Here is an imposing architecture project that looks more like a museum than a private living space. Designed by architects Jackson Clements Burrows, the Henley Street residence has an uncommon appearance and is located in Barwon Heads, Australia. Here is more information from the architects: “A young family engaged JCB to design their new permanent residence which would replace a dilapidated 1950’s two storey house that was beyond repair. A sculptural building form emerged from the clients brief which jokingly requested a planetarium as an inclusion. This led to the exploration of circular forms and resulted in a circular skylight in the first floor living areas as a direct reference however the house was primarily conceived to immerse itself over time as a natural extension of the Ti-tree dominated landscape. The house is wrapped in as skin of vertical cedar battens (providing privacy and solar protection) which appear to emerge from the front fence intentionally confusing the relationship between built form and landscape.” We know you like original home designs, but how far would you go in order to make your home stand out from the crowd?

Even though its exterior is certainly unique, the first impression when looking at this home is definitely not one of comfort or coziness. But don’t let the gray concrete fool you. As one steps inside, the perspective changes in an unexpected and pleasant way. A beautiful and stylish timber staircase connects the interiors. Its spiral shape has a dynamic effect on the overall interior design and is complemented by an elegant timber handrail.

This Contemporary Floating Home comes from Vandeventer Carlander Architects. It is located on Lake Union, right in the city center. This particular project was meant as a contemporary looking building with plenty of entertainment space. As you can see in the pictures below, there are many decks and the large floor to ceiling windows allow great views of the city in every direction. This is not exactly the most intimate crib, but it's okay, as long as the owners don't mind.

With a sleek and minimalist approach to adaptable living, here’s a sophisticated house that likes to “travel”. Located in a rural site in Suffolk, England, and dubbed the Sliding House, it has mobile walls and a roof that glides along rails to cover and uncover the static parts of the 28 meters long dwelling. The house was designed by London-based practice de Rijke Marsh Morgan Architects for a client who desired a retirement home. The house is made up of three buildings arranged along a longitudinal axis, with a garage set perpendicularly, off to the side. A small patio was located in front. Sliding back and forth, the mobile exterior offers the house’s residents incredible flexibility with the look and behavior of the building. The lighting and mood of the interior spaces can be altered with the simple movement of the exterior.

This stilt house, the Froschkonig Treehouse by treehouse architects Baumraum, sits among the treetops of this private garden in Munster, Germany. Steps lead residents and guests through the lily pad-covered pool to the base of this stilt house, where a wood and steel staircase leads up to a tatajuba-wood terrace. This contemporary wood clad house in the sky features a modern, curved shape. A large picture window on each end of the home and a skylight brighten interiors while lending a transparency and a connection to the outdoors. Inside this compact home design, minimalist interiors boast walls, floors and furniture of white-glazed ash. The curved ceilings follow with the interesting home’s overall shape.
