It looks anything but modern on the exterior: a tall, dark tower made of stone with slots that look constructed for medieval archers and a turret-like top from which one can picture ancient defenders pouring boiling oil on would-be invaders. The inside of this 1930s water tower-turned-house, however, gleams white and smooth all around – quintessentially modern despite the non-linear walls and minimalist metal spiral staircases, curves that dominate each space within this completely remodeled cylinder. Steel, concrete and glass form the basic material palette used by Zecc in this incredible contemporary home conversion – and these choices do help to transition from the aged rustic style of the preserved facade to the modern interior spaces, but they are nonetheless almost as different as can be.

This beautiful stunning residential house design news is a modern Lake Travis Retreat located in central Texas designed by Dick Clark Architecture to accommodate a family as it grows, and play host to friends and extended family, the ideas that inform the design of the house were developed through an unusual process. This retreat house design’s primary views is to focus on interior courtyards or the lake itself with the concept was to keep the scale of the house as small as possible to get effectively maintained on details and materials. The exterior walls of this lake travis retreat was made of sandstone, were assembled through a drystack method, in which no mortar was used. The result is a monolithic form in which the warn tones of the stone are ever variable under the changing conditions of natural light. Bedrooms are located in the long wing to the west, while more social activities take place in the courtyards or in the kitchen and other living spaces in the east wing of the house. When gallery walls open, the two courtyards become one continuous space, perfect for parties. The lakeside courtyard, including the trees preserved during construction, ameliorate the slope of the site. Drawing subtle influence from Japanese garden practices, the shifts in elevation are defined and integrated by areas of softscape, areas of hardscape and a linear water feature. The final water feature in the series of seven brings together the family’s love of water and social activity: a jacuzzi large enough to accommodate twelve people and offering an outstanding view of the lake.

Located on the coast of Vestfold, Southern Norway, this house become so attractive, with all fantastic natural surrounding view. The house and terraces are partly built upon existing stone walls, the parts of the walls which are new are made of stones from the blasting at the site.

Minton Hill House is design by Affleck de la Riva Architects. The Minton Hill House strikes a delicate balance between the engaging of its panoramic hilltop position and the provision of a protective domestic environment. The house is at once an environmental filter, a view-framing device, and a series of interior and exterior gardens and courts. The project is composed of four essential elements – the roof, the stone hearth, the wood shell, and the sun window. Celebrating the house’s hilltop position with a spread-wing profile, the floating roof is the project’s defining symbol. Its generous southern overhang provides the solar control of a vernacular Eastern Townships farmhouse in a contemporary architectural form.
